Hello Swankers!

I am approaching the dreaded anniversary of my diagnosis on March 25th, 2005 which coincidentally was Good Friday. Since then, it has taken on a new name, "Black Friday," "Not-so-good-Friday," and "I-have-seen-better-Fridays." I was 29, just 3 months shy of my 30th. I was diagnosed that same day as the symptoms were excruciating pain at the slight touch on the entire right side of my body, my left arm and hand had stopped working, my feet were completely numb, and my walk was awkward. I walked as if I was drunk. After the lumbar puncture, which left a headache and lower back pain for weeks, and an MRI, they diagnosed me.

Since then, I was told that I should start the Copaxone ASAP. Something inside of me told me NOT to take this route. I happened to discover the diet in September and have not strayed since. I am running, exercising more then ever in my life, I have lost some weight and gained muscle. I have never been healthier in my life. I have little to no symptoms at all. On occasion my fingers might tingle, but I also type all day. My friends and family are supportive of my diet and my choice with NOT doing any interferons.

Two days ago, I saw the neurologist for my 6 month appointment. I could see, hear, feel and walk well regardless of the lesion in my spine and those in my brain. I was shocked that I could feel the cold instrument on BOTH sides of my body equally as well. I also can play my guitar again as if nothing ever happened. The neurologist had no answers when I approached the subject of nutrition for MS, rather than the drugs. I asked about omega fatty 3's. PUFA's, and she was clueless. This only REINFORCED my belief that Doctors do not know everything.

I am blessed that I am on this healthy route. I do NOT miss or crave anything sweet. I enjoy the foods I can eat (Thank Goodness for Sushi, and pastas with olive oil), and have also inspired friends and family to take better care of the bodies with which they are blessed. I stay away from people who do not understand my diet, and who are unhealthy with their food choices as there is no room on my life for obstacles. I attribute my continued health to my decision of sticking with the Swank diet for life, my positive attitude and family support.
